Our cosy, home-from-home feel barn is the perfect space for our smallest explorers. We believe building secure relationships is most important during this age as when babies feel safe, they will feel confident to explore the world around them. We recognise that at this age, babies require attentive care and love and we aim to follow their individual routines as best as we can as all babies have different needs to be met. Classical music will soothe your baby to sleep, whilst they breath in our lavender oil in the nearby diffuser – or in the summer, the shaded garden, comforted by the calm breeze and natural sounds is the idyllic place for a rest!
Babies learn greatly through sensory experiences and our child led approach, using open-ended resources such as treasure baskets, helps to support their growth and development which is forever evolving. Easy access to the outside space allows the babies to safely experience their outdoor environment at times suitable for them. How exciting for a baby to experience first-hand the sight of birds on the grass, smell the blossoming flowers, feel the warmth of the sunshine, the tickles of the breeze and the splashes of the rain on their skin. Following their developmental needs, staff are there to make those precious learning moments achievable from providing a cable reel to explore and master the skill of balancing and standing, to modelling simple Makaton signs to encourage their early communication skills.
We encourage all staff to engage with the babies and they often visit the barn to ensure that when children move to the main building they are already familiar with the adults. Settling in sessions to the main building are carefully organised to ensure a smooth transition. We also hold events throughout the year for families to attend so that all staff and families can meet and develop relationships.
